What makes the perfect beer sausage?

Sausage and beer together offer a unique and deeply satisfying treat for the senses.  Further consideration reveals that both have a long history of tradition and innovation.  They make a naturally great pairing.  We would like to nominate Primal Cut’s  Currywurst as this month’s best beer sausage.  This month, we are delighted that Mark Anderson local beer expert at Fuggle and Golding, Ilkley accepted the challenge to nominate three great craft beers to try with this amazing sausage.

Why nominate the Currywurst as best beer sausage?

The Currywurst – All natural sausage

There are three reasons to nominate the Currywurst as December’s best beer sausage: we like beer, we like curry and we like sausages! If you have the beers in, why not incorporate that late night curry in the form of a sausage?  Heaven!

Our Currywurst is an all natural sausage, packed full of delicious sweet curry flavours.   As a speciality sausage, it even has its own following.  In Germany, the Currywurst is national street food.  It is as popular as fish and chips.  Sauerkraut is added to the sausage and the combo is sprinkled with curry ketchup and a tiny pinch of hot curry powder. At home, we enjoy this sausage with chips or with mango chutney in a nicely warmed wrap.

Pairing great natural sausage with the best beer.

Key to pairing is the need to match the intensity of the beer with that of the sausage.  Neither should overpower the other.  For that reason we spoke to Mark at Fuggle and Golding, craft beer specialists in Ilkley.  We asked Mark if he would sample our Currywurst and make three recommendations to perfectly compliment the flavour.

Here are his three top suggestions to compliment our No.1 beer sausage:

craft beer

Mark recommends:

Trappistes Rochefort 6 – A very impressive dark Trappist beer from the Rochefort monastery. Characterised by notes of strong plum, raisin and black currant with vinous qualities.

Magic Rock, Dark Arts  – four different malts and a bunch of hops are blended together to bring you a luxurious Stout with a long dry finish.

Turning Point Brewery, Lucid Dream Milk Stout– Cookie Cream Stout combines eight  malt varieties to give a complex backbone to this beauty of a Stout

Beers recommended by Mark Anderson co-owner of Fuggle and Golding Tap House and Bottle Shop, Ilkley.  Fuggle and Golding  have a passion for quality craft beer and small batch gins, and aim to bring you the best local, national & international brews and distilleries.  Cheers!
